I have a question regarding the current Apple TV (ATV 3).

I understand that the ATV3 cannot display 4K videos due to its processing power, but I cannot find any information regarding displaying high resolution photos from an Apple TV to a 4K television.

Is an ATV 3 capable of displaying high resolution photos @ 3840 x 2160 to a 4K television, or will it downscale the images to 1080p (1920 x 1080)?

Additional Info:
We use our ATV 3 to display a screensaver slideshow of a collection of photographs, all of which are very high resolution (5xxx X 4xxx). We also use the Airplay feature to display our cast our iPads or Macbooks to the television. The iPads/Macbook Airplay does not need to be in 4K, but will the screensaver slideshow be in 4K?

Maximum output from ATV3 is 1920 x 1080. Source material doesn't matter.

Seconded. The AppleTV can only send a signal out at a maximum of 1920x1080. No amount of software updating can change that. A 4K TV would have to "upsample" the image just as it would any other 1080p input.
