Apple TV and Airport Extreme Router

I am using an Apple Airport Extreme Router to transfer content from my Unibody Macbook to my Apple TV. The router is not connected to a modem which means there is no Internet access. Everytime I try to sync to the Apple TV, it says the Apple TV is not connected to the iTunes store and needs to be authorized. Would upgrading to iTunes Plus remove the need for authorization? Is there any way to authorize the Apple TV without Internet access?
