Apple TV and streaming 3ivx/reference files

Hello,

I have quite a few 3ivx MPEG-4 video files in the .avi container and have just used MPEG Streamclip to save the files in the .mov container.

Just a few questions really.

Is the 3ivx flavour of MPEG-4 supported on the Apple TV?
If it is, can I stream reference files (QTLs or whatever) so I can store the actual video files on an external hard drive or a location other than my iTunes library?
