I am wondering if anyone else had to change the aspect ratio on their TV (Not Apple TV) to get menus in games and other apps to show up that were stretched out of the display and not visible. I changed my LG TV from 16:9 to Just scan for the aspect ratio and am wondering if anyone else did this. What is just scan? It seemed like in the aspect ratio settings that Just scan was the only option that would show the full calibration window. I have attached two images one with 16:9 aspect ratio and the other one on just scan. I just want to know if anyone else had to change the aspect ratio on their TV also.

Yeah I have a 60" LG Smart TV (3D 1080p) that was set to 16:9 and it cut part of the screen off, I also had to change it to Just scan for the Apple TV 4. It just set's it for that one input though which isn't a problem. Since getting the ATV4 and cutting cable I haven't switched inputs and that was back in Dec.

Thanks for your reply. Ya I noticed it only set it for the one input and that is what I want because I want regular TV to be 16:9 which I think is what it is supposed to be. How much was it cutting off on your TV? I also have another Apple TV 4 on a 42 inch LG TV and I am not going to mess with the settings to change the aspect ratio on that one because it isn't cutting much off. It is cutting a little bit off but not as much as the 32 inch LG TV and that one is the one that I took the pictures of. You would think that Apple would of made it so you wouldn't have to change any settings to begin with. I guess there is multiple types of TVs and each has their own way of scaling everything with the aspect ratio.

I'd say it cut off up to 4 inches all around. Just scan is good for just about everything, I'd only change it to 16:9 if the image is stretched or thinned.

Its called Overscan and virtually all TV's have it turned on by default.

Nearly everybody is watching video in the wrong resolution, zoomed with the edges cut off without knowing it.

There are many different names for turning it off - not just "Just Scan"

Here's a good article about it - http://hypercritical.co/2013/12/22/fill-your-tv

Its an accurate pixel for pixel unaltered representation of the source. I.E. Its correct, not altered. The way it should be.

Thanks for putting that link on here. You would think that by now tv manufacturers wouldn't be turning it on by default. Overscan really does mess with the picture with connected devices such as Apple TVs and it probably also messes with gaming consoles.
