Hello everyone! So I will try to make it short. Multiple Vizio Smart TV setup with an 8X8 HDMI Matrix and Yamaha receiver. Two DirecTV boxes, Apple TV, etc as inputs. All CAT6 cable running to TVs then have HDMI converters (transmitter / receiver) for each TV. When I use my Apple TV, I can play audio/video for YouTube and the Yamaha is using the correct AirPlay input… TV is using temporary audio output perfectly….. when I change to any other app (Prime Video, NFL, FoxSports, Paramount, etc.) I get video and no sound. Still on Airplay output for sound… but I don’t get anything for sound……only on YouTube. Any ideas?

Simplify your connections so you can find the culprit. For example does everything (AppleTV) play fine with AppleTV HDMI direct into Yamaha receiver, then Yamaha receiver direct to one TV? Very likely yes. And if so, you mostly rule out cables, Yamaha, AppleTV, TV HDMI port.

So then start injecting these other “middleman” pieces to find the one(s) that is causing audio issues as described. First guess is the matrix piece. But maybe it is TV#2+? Maybe it is conflicting HDMI “handshakes” from multiple TVs perhaps with different settings? Maybe 1+ TV has CEC settings one way and the next one has them different? Etc.

Why AirPlay in such a setup? Test direct wired connections vs. simplified AirPlay if AirPlay use is somehow essential.

Play the deduction game with one variable change at a time until you discover exactly what is causing the issue. Then you can dig deeper on that one thing to try to resolve it.

Yes, and believe me, i did that already… AppleTV to TV direct works (so TV and Apple TV works), I have ruled out all cables as they have been replaced (HDMI, Cat6), I tried a new HDMI Matrix, new Cat6/HDMI Converters all new. I am sure it is a setting issue (because that is the easiest). Not sure why airplay…. The audio is ran to Audio 5 input (Cat6 -> RCA). When I put YouTube on, still says audio 5 on my Yamaha. But when I select another streaming source, it switches to airplay and changes the Apple TV speaker output from temporary (Media Center) to TV sound.

Thanks for your help… I will keep trying. I might disconnect everything (big job) and then start with AppleTV first and go from there……
