so i have a jailbroken apple tv 2 and i haven't really updated it at all in 3-4 years. i mainly use icefilms for movies. how do "channels" work as far as access is concerned? i have fios extreme cable so i have EVERY channel except PPV and porn. do i have to pay for hbo, showtime, abc, etc on apple tv to watch content through it, i plan on buying the new apple tv and putting the jailbroken on in my bedroom? i noticed in the apple store yesterday, there is a Disney channel were you can pick shows and watch them. is that free? would be a huge plus for my kids.

thanks

Several of the channels want to validate your cable provider such as ESPN Watch app. But once they validate, all content is free (or denied I guess). Channels like HBO and netflix need to be subscribed.

There is an app store now so Plex will make an appearance as I am sure a plethora of RAID box provider apps.
