Apple TV for me?

I want to get an apple tv for my home tv (living room) really bad!

i know once my mom and dad knew how to use it they would always rent movies, and i could see my mom walking around listening to music (she has a giant stack of cds on our counter that she uses for a cd player mounted under our cabinet), as well as viewing slideshows.

her computer is a windows.
mine is a mac.

can we both sync our libraries to it?

No, but you can have one be the primary sync computer and stream from the other. (or stream from both)

yep, in the new firmware they appear together. You can access both computers' content all in one menu. This'll mean nothing to you if you buy one that comes with the new firmware but for me, its a great new feature.
