Hi all.

I found an old Apple TV gen 2 in my garage. The unit powers on, but the remote's "up" and "back" button don't work, so it's pretty useless right now. Is it worth spending the $10 for a new remote, or is the box e-waste at this point?

All of my TVs have AirPlay integration, so it's not worth keeping around if I would only be able to use it as an AirPlay receiver.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, the Apple TV Gen 2 is pretty outdated in 2025. Even with a working remote, it's limited to old apps and slow performance. Since your TVs already have AirPlay, it's probably not worth the $10. Better to recycle it or keep as a collector’s piece if you're into that.

No, it's not worth it. I packed mine back in its box a long time ago since a lot of the built-in streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, Prime) were either removed or no longer worked. It doesn't have an App Store, so the apps are pretty limited to begin with. It also never supported Apple TV+. I replaced it with a Roku.
