It can’t only be me, right? When I’m using apps like YouTube etc. the search function is horrendously bad. I start searching for something,
I make a simple spelling mistake, and I have to write everything all over again. There’s simply no other way. I always end up picking up my phone to do the search. To me it’s incredible just how bad the UI is on the Apple TV when it comes to the search function in particular. I keep getting updates, but the only upgrade which actually improved things a bit was the one that lets you close apps.

Fine, the ATV (4K of course) is not a big hit, I get it, but please try to make it as decent as possible! After all, it is an expensive Apple product. But the bugs never seem to go away; it’s like the developers don’t give a **** at all, or anyone else working at Apple. All I know is that I keep losing connection with my HomePod Minis in addition to the aforementioned incredibly badly implemented search engine and every other random bug hindering me from enjoying the ATV to its full potential. Don’t get me going on the Apple Arcade games again… It could have been sooo much better! I think everyone here can agree on that, even if you just use it to stream Netflix or AirPlay photos of your kids from your phone to your TV or whatever. I don’t even understand why they released a new version - because there are zero major improvements. I guess this is a product that just needs to be left for dead once and for all.

Pressing the Mic button and dictating what I’m wanting to search for is the quickest and easiest option when not wanting to use the phone keyboard.

The problem I have is there are 2 searches , one in the top text field and the other below - the one below is utterly useless and never works , the top one is slightly less useless but still not up to much tbh.

I'm sorry but siri, even after all these years, is a pile of utter cr@p

I agree that search on ATV needs a total rethink

Yeah… well, I’m multilingual and I’d like to listen or watch things in other languages, as such the dictation function is not very useful, for me.

And when it comes to the HomePod Minis, I’ve been experimenting with the Google Nest Mini lately (half the price) and it’s so much better in every way. I can ask it to play from Spotify or YouTube Music. Siri is the worst (only Apple Music). Sorry. Also, Google Nest is so much easier to control from your iPhone, ironically enough.

Edit: When it is easier to use your iPhone to control Google Home than it is to reliably connect your iPhone to the Apple Home app and have very little control… that kinda says a lot… I’ll always be a Mac user (because I find them superior, and since the release of the iPhone X (iPads are also superior) I’ve been on the Apple side of things, so to speak, but I have to admit that most of those Apple ‘accessories’ as I’d like to call the other products other than computers, iPads and iPhones, are overpriced and inferior compared to the competition, imo. The Watch is pretty good, though, tbh.

Are you starting to get SPAM based on conversations within your home? Google and Amazon sell their products at a loss and make their money from businesses that buy their marketing data. My neighbor was amazed that after he talked to his wife about buying a new TV, they started receiving advertising for TVs :). It is OK if you want to sell your privacy, but it can be annoying.

Not sure why you are having so much difficulty with Apple products, perhaps your brain works differently. They just work for me. My Google and Amazon eco system friends have nothing but complaints about their crap, ever try to send a video to a google phone without jumping through hoops. Ever try cancelling a message? .. I've noticed that after the novelty wears off and dealing with weekly system resets, their hardware is turned off and often sent to the attic. The reliability is just terrible.

Apple TV search seems to be awkward compared to a few other devices, however... always room for improvement.

Don’t get me wrong, I am an Apple user. Let’s see, what do I have… 2 iPhones, an (old) iPad, the MacBook Air M1, 2 Apple TVs, an Apple Watch, AirPod Pros, and 2 HomePod Minis, so yeah I do tend to prefer Apple products, but at the same time I believe it’s important to really experience - not basing your info on outdated internet hearsay - what the competition has to offer. Apple products are simply not always the best. Period.

Edit: Btw., Apple has had how many years to fix their horrible search function on the ATV by now?

Edit2: Streaming video content from my MacBook to the ATV is futile. I can’t figure out why - it used to work. But sometimes AirPlay simply doesn’t work as advertised, so the whole thing about the superior Apple ecosystem doesn’t really seem to apply anymore, as I see it. It’s the same when I AirPlay a downloaded movie from the iPhone using the Apple TV app, it has these little pauses like a hundred times during a full movie. It just doesn’t work seamlessly, like it should (both devices connected to the same network). The more devices you add to this ecosystem the less stable it appears to become. Nothing seems to work effortlessly in the Apple ecosystem anymore. There are constant, random errors here and there. The more advanced the ecosystem, the more buggy it becomes apparently. For me, the novelty has worn off. When it comes to a home entertainment system, I’m going to completely change my setup. Apple simply doesn’t cut it.
