Will the Apple TV HD IE the fourth generation not the 4K version support the new lossless audio? I updated to TVOS 14.6 but I don't see an option anywhere to enable the higher quality audio for Apple music. It says my model number is a1625.

It is not available until June, so there are not any settings to be seen on any units at the moment

I have the same question about the Apple TV HD 4th generation. The Apple support document talks about the 4K version:

“How to listen to lossless on your Apple TV 4K”

There is no mention of the Apple TV HD, but if you look at the Tech Specs, the Apple TV HD does support Apple Lossless. The only difference I can see between the HD and 4K audio Tech Specs is that the 4K version supports Dolby Atmos.

In TVOS 14.6 on the HD version, I don’t see any option for Quality or Lossless in the settings under Settings>Apps>Music, but this might come with an updated Music app.

Those settings will appear on a server side update when they launch the service.

14.6 is essentially waiting for that update to then give you access to those settings

My bad. I glossed over the "HD" in the OP title.

As you found, the HD is ALAC "capable", but whether or not Apple supports it with the updated Music app is anyone's guess at this point. My guess? Probably not, as the HD does not support Dolby Atmos, which seems to be a requirement among Apple devices for supporting spatial audio. We'll find out soon enough...

I am going to be really upset if they don't support the 4th generation Apple TV. I don't want to have to upgrade to get lostless audio...

Do you mean lossless Apple Music or lossless in general?
Any appleTV supports ALAC codec and should you have such files in your iTunes library, you could have enjoyed them for long time now.

In theory, it should. It's still being sold by Apple along with the ATV4kv2 as a lower-end option and Apple is going to want as many of the features in the new Music update to be supported on as many Apple devices as possible.

If you're looking for a definitive answer, you're going to have to wait until June (which starts on Tuesday) ;) to see for yourself when the update comes out. The only people that would know for certain are internal Apple employees - and most have the wherewithal to not risk their jobs by leaking confidential information on forums such as this. :)
