Apple TV+ Macbook to TV using HDMI

Am I right in thinking that it’s not possible to stream Apple TV plus on TV through a HDMI cable from a MacBook? Keeps either not playing at all or cutting out after 10 minutes every time I try it.

I had been tempted to sign up after the free trial but I won’t be bothering if this basic functionality isn’t available.

I don't think this is a HDMI problem but apple using you to beta test apple tv plus. That's why they are giving it away.
