LG OLED TV connected with Apple TV 4K on newest firmware. I selected the option to automatically switch to source format (HDR/SDR) and frame rate but nothing happens. 4K Dolby Vision is "preselected" but the ATV never switches to SDR even when I watch SDR content...

???

i have an LG oled also

the tv announces when it goes to HDR or Dolby, but not to SDR

while you're watching something, shake the LG TV remote till the cursor pops up, click on the screen, the "HDMI #" should appear in the upper left, click on that with the cursor, and you should see 2160p and a then an indicator of what kind of HDR it's getting, SDR will have nothing there.

Try putting your aTV in 4k SDR, and then playing something that's Dolby/HDR.
This is what i do, since 95% or more of my content is SDR, that way it doesn't have to change as much, since the TV blinks out for a bit when it changes.

The LG TV's don't tell you when it's going into normal mode, if you know what I mean. What TV model is it?

I used 4k SDR 60hz as default, automatically switched to HDR or DV. I have LG OLED65C7P works great.

Most apps that are SDR will not switch “down” to HDR yet. Set the Apple TV to 4K SDR until more apps are updated. The set will switch into HDR when those signals are present. The only thing you’ll be missing out in by doing so are HDR screensavers.

I did exactly that and my OLED always shows 2160 Dolby Vision even with SD content.
[doublepost=1512837272][/doublepost]I just tried to put the ATV to 1080p SDR and trying lower and higher resolution content. The TV keeps showing 1080p no matter what I throw at it.

Put it in 4K SDR. What content are you trying to watch in HDR? Try Stranger Things on Netflix or Grand Tour on Amazon.

resolution never switches

it's frame rate (for example 24 or 60 frames/second)
and color depth (SDR, HDR, or Dolby Vision)

I've looked, and have yet to find a way to see what frame rate the TV is receiving, (resolution and color depth you can see)

and to add to spanky
for some reason (at least for me) stranger things season 1 has been playing SDR, but season 2 plays in dolby on the ATV

all of the netflix marvel shows are dolby (punisher, daredevil, jessica jones, etc...)

Oh thanks, you are right, resolution is not supposed to switch (what a shame).

Have to check the other things and will report back but I believe selecting DV always brought DV no matter if content is in DV or not...

just tried DV preselected as default, my oled65c7 always switch to SDR or HDR10 content playing, i wonder if your 11.2 firmware got corrupted during upgrade.

Definitely not a shame - the ATV has a very, very good upscaler - probably better than most brands of TV (unless some SONY models but even then, it holds its own).
