Apple TV on non HDTV

i've been researching hooking up apple tv to a non hdtv.
can anyone tell me if my set up will work with apple tv or if i need to take the pad lock off the wallet for a new tv.

i have a 36" toshiba, non hdtv. the back of the tv has red, white and yellow cable ports. there is also an "s video"

the back of my dvd player has red blue and green video out ports.
i have read that you need the green port to run apple tv, but didnt know if apple tv can plug into the dvd ports or not.

my home entertainment knowledge hook up knowledge is circa 1990's.

any help is appreciated.

The TV is a 720p HD device. It will not work with your non-HD set.

The new Apple TV only supports HDMI. The old Apple TV supports both HDMI and Component (your DVD player also has component video - they are the Red, Blue and Green RCA connectors).

The Yellow, Red and White RCA connectors are Composite (Yellow for video, Red for left channel audio and white for right channel audio).

In terms of video quality, Composite Video is about as poor as it gets (sans RF). So you are really better off just purchasing a new television that supports HDMI and Component so you can plug in the Apple TV via the HDMI and the DVD via Component (which offers significantly better video quality than Composite).
