apple tv only showing newest content

Check your settings in iTunes by opening it and clicking on the AppleTV. You likely have the preferences set to download the latest 5 movies, for example. You can change things around to download more, but keep in mind that you can only store so much at once, depending on the size of your AppleTV's drive.
