a gasping dying planet
any thoughts?

neither has ability to play bluray (important since we want to burn movies from our digital camcorder that is AVCHD).

we like apple tv's ability to sync to all other computers on the network for showing movies, playing music and doing picture slideshows. but we like the flexibility of the actual mac with being able to surf the intertubes and play physical media (though as noted, not bluray). so . . . we're in a bit of a quandry. neither can satisfy what we want in a digital hub.

is there anything that would?

additionally, they haven't updated the apple tv in a long while, so is it worth getting one now or wait till the steve is back in the saddle to update his hobby?

HP has a media centre that's been getting positive reviews. Forget the name off hand, but Google should be able to find it.

Otherwise, what about Mini + external Blue Ray drive? Kind of a pain, and it sort of defeats the purpose of the small form factor, but it would solve the problem.

PS3 does Blue Ray...

Your description isn't too clear, but it appears that a Sony PlayStation 3 would best suit your needs. It can play Blu Ray movies and also stream and copy content from your other computers.
