Apple TV Remote Control Stopped Allowing Me to Change the Volume. How to Get that feature back?

I have a Samsung smart tv connected to my 2021 Apple TV 4K. When I first set it up the included remote let me do everything including turning on and off the tv and also adjusting the volume.
However it’s since stopped for the past few weeks and am wondering how to be able to change the volume again just using the Apple TV remote instead of manually changing it on the Samsung tv directly.

Because it happens so much
This is on the 2021 Apple TV

I’ve got an older Pioneer receiver where the volume controls work perfectly on my original Apple TV 4th gen HD model remote but refuse to play at all with my newer 4K second gen model with silver Siri Remote…

I’d love to be able to get this working … tried everything….
