Apple TV remote wont turn volume up

Hello,

Hoping someone has come across a similar issue.

My Apple remote will no longer turn the volume up on my 2009 iMac. This issue has occurred sometime on Lion and now mountain Lion.

The remote will turn the system volume down but not up for some reason. All other buttons work.

Have you put a new battery in it? Perhaps that button is wearing out and it's time for a new remote.

Yes battery was the first thing I tried. I wouldn't have expected the button to wear out after about 2 years of limited use.
