pairing only affects the receiver, not the remote.
Any remote will work on an unpaired receiver, even if that remote has been paired with another device.
There are only 255 distinct remote codes
You can change the code your remote sends by holding menu and center
It would be possible to have 2 remotes control the same paired device, but could take some time to get the second remote to match the first.
