Apple TV+ received multiple accolades at the annual Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards over the weekend, with "Severance" winning Best Drama and hit show "Ted Lasso" taking home the Best Comedy award.

With 12 nominations to its name, "Severance" was the most-winning drama on the night, and picked up Best Actress for Britt Lower, Best Supporting Actor for John Turturro, Best Writing for Dan Erickson, and Best Directing for Ben Stiller.

"Ted Lasso" was the most-nominated comedy series for the second year in a row with 20 nominations, and scored the only back-to-back HCA TV Award win across all platforms, with consecutive Best Supporting Actor wins for star Brett Goldstein.

In total, the two shows earned Apple TV+ seven HCA TV Awards wins, which was more than any other streaming service, coming from its record 53 nominations received across a range of genres from the Hollywood Critics Association last month.

Bit of a slow burn, but ended up being really good. New concept and not the usual packaged shows we are currently seeing.

I've hardly watched any ATV+ shows, even when I had free subscription. But Severance was truly outstanding, the first must-watch show of the service for me - everything else just hasn't been to my taste or demographic.

In fact, Severance is head and shoulders above pretty much everything else out there in streaming land and TV this year (apart from Better Call Saul of course). It was beautifully crafted, with superb acting, and real Kafkaesque mystery. Can't wait for Season 2!

Agree, but hard to wait until tomorrow night for the best show on TV to wrap up. (Better Call Saul).

This last season of For All Mankind was a crazy rollercoaster of unexpected events. Can’t wait for the next and probably last season.
I’ll start watching the other shows once there are at least a couple seasons available to view.

Finished both shows and loved both.

Out of curiosity…what happened to Foundation? Heard barely anything about it compared to the two shows above. There was a lot of fanfare at the start I thought.
That's a good reminder, I forgot that show was a thing. Without looking I think that is a November/winter launch.

Really liked the first season of Severence. Could not get past a few episodes of Lasso. Never understood why it is classified as a comedy.

Hollywood Critics Association awards are much like J.D.Powers awards, the best fake awards money can buy... Awards mean nothing. Look at the highly awarded movies from the Academy, and so many of them had a fraction of the viewer numbers than movies which were not even nominated. If I wanted to increase viewership I would listen to the viewers, not some pompous award generator.

It's space opera - critics don't like space opera.

It's actually quite good space opera provided you're not a devoted fan of the original books and just sit back and enjoy it on its own terms.

Severance, Ted Lasso, Trying, Dickinson, Pachinko, Slow Horses and Mythic Quest are all incredible
If you liked Severance and Slow Horses. I'd give "Shining Girls" a go, too.

The one I thought was a total write-off was "Invasion" - unless you just enjoy 5 minutes of very slow-burn alien invasion diluted with 55 minutes of miserable people being mean to each other. I have a very special movie/TV hell reserved for any show that makes me think "Hey, the Tom Cruise version of War of The Worlds did this much better..."

Ted Lasso had heart, and many nice moments. Looking forward to its season 3! Especially what the deal will be with...

I didn't get a chance to watch Severance. Might as well wait for season 2 to get released, while also waiting for other shows I'd like to get new seasons of: Foundation, See, and Central Park. Speaking of which...

... quickie internet browsing search I did months ago shows that a new season may come in mid 2023? Didn't bookmark the article, so take that with a grain of salt. For me, Foundation is the one TV series I'm dying to get into its next season.

I can see that. I am only 4-5 episodes in, and I like the show, but it is indeed painfully slow-going. I think 75% of the appeal to me is just looking at Golshifteh Farahani as Aneesha. The other 25% may be hope that eventually we are going to get to see some cool alien stuff. If it ends up petering out as a soap opera, it won't be the worst thing I've wasted viewing time on.

For those that don't like Ted Lasso, I have to admit a lot of the appeal might hinge on how much you love/hate Sudeikis' southern schtick: it is endless. That said, I love the series, and every time I thought I could predict the plot, it went a different direction. They have tried pretty hard to keep it away from stereotypical if you ask me, but YMMV...

For the record, the only other series I've watched with regularity is Tehran, and I think it is well-made, but IMHO not seriously compelling above and beyond the many other examples of the genre outside of TV+...

I will say it. Apple TV is worth the money. I really enjoyed several shows: Ted Lasso, Severance, Black Bird, Slow Horses, Mythic Quest, For all Mankind, Foundation. They are only ones I have had the time to watch. I probably watch Apple TV more than anything but live sports. Apple has way overachieved so far.
