Apple TV using DVI to HDMI cable

My box boots up with the apple logo then the picture goes away. Is there any way to correct this? My DirecTV Genie box works fine with this cable setup. Any help would be appreciated.

I use mine with an HDMI to DVI cable and it works fine for me. Try a different cable maybe?

Googled that there was a software update...

that may be causing the problem. My TV doesn't have HDMI. It has DVI. I use a DVI/HDMI connector and there has never been a problem with any of my electronic devices. I wonder if there is an adaptor that I can purchase? I will be purchasing a new TV in the next three months or so.

That's the same as my TV. It has one DVI port so I use a HDMI switch with HDMI cables going from the devices into the switch, and my HDMI to DVI cable going from the switch into the TV's DVI port.
