I realize apple has updated their firmware over the years but I'm wondering if there have been any significant upgrades in the hard ware department over the last couple of years?

My plan is to install a broadcom crystal hd mini-pc card to enable 1080p playback but I want to know if the model of the apple tv will make a difference. I don't care about local storage capacity (plan on network streaming) and since the 40 gb models have been discontinued I've found a few pretty reasonably priced ones on ebay.

Basically, are there any advantages with the newer 160gb models other than storage space?

No. Apple has NEVER updated the hardware in the Apple TV since its inception (other than the 160 gig hard drive), something I am very mad about.
