Apple unable to do VZW edge?

I have a 10/14 pre-order delivery date from VZW. I saw that a local apple store had the 6Plus I wanted in stock tonight and I went through to order it only. They only had the 2 year contracts as a plan option (switching from Sprint). I did Apple chat, they said call apple 800 number. I gave apple phone person all my info and after 20 minutes she told me that apple is not setup to sell VZW edge plans and I'd need to wait for my pre-order to arrive. Geeze that sucks. I was overly nice to her in every possible way and they cannot do anything, just aren't setup for it. Very disappointing when my hopes were so high.
