This is an odd finding that I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on. I bought an Apple Universal Dock for my work computer which runs Windows 7. I can plug in my iPhone or iPod to any of the USB ports and they work fine. If I try to connect either device through the Universal Dock connected to a rear USB port, however, I get a message the the USB device is not recognized. If I plug the Universal Dock into one of the front USB ports, then everything works fine. Has anyone run into this situation? It works fine the way it is now, there's just an awkward cable plugged into the front and then running back behind the computer.

What computer? USB ports aren't always all identical depending on the specific machine.
