Apple Universal Dock with iPhone 4 Bumper?

Hi! Can someone who has actually tried tell us if an Apple Universal Dock without any adapter can be used with an iPhone 4 in a Bumper? It seems conceivable that the extra space provided in that dock before adding adapters might accommodate the Bumper.

This same question has been posted on Apple's product page by others, but still no answers. If anyone has actually done this, successfully or unsuccessfully, I would love to know - thanks!

a few of us have cut our 3gs and 4 docks successfully , I'm sure the universal can be done the same:

no dock inserts will dock the i4 + bumper just fine.

Well inserts are made for a reason, leaving it gone for the iphone 4 might wear down the connector. I was about to grab a universal dock for myself till I realized this, so I'm looking at 3rd party stands for now.
