Along with the reveal of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple yesterday briefly mentioned that the previous generation of iPhone -- the 6s and 6s Plus -- have both gotten updates to storage capacities and price drops. In solidarity with the iPhone 7's omission of the low-tier 16GB option, anyone interested in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will now have two storage tiers to choose from: 32GB and 128GB. The iPhone 7 has an additional 256GB option.

New storage tiers for the iPhone 6s

With the new storage options come new, lower prices as well. For the iPhone 6s, the 32GB tier is priced at $549.00 while the 128GB tier is priced at $649.00. Previously, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s ran for $650 (16GB), $750 (64GB), and $850 (128GB), so the barrier for entry has been noticeably lowered this year.

Although slightly higher in price thanks to its size and camera features, the iPhone 6s Plus has received a discount in price as well. The 32GB tier will cost those interested $649.00 and the 128GB tier costs $749.00. For the larger iPhone, that's a big difference from the $750 (16GB), $850 (64GB), and $950 (128GB) options that launched last year.

The 32GB storage option for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will go on sale tomorrow, September 9, alongside the pre-orders for iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and Apple Watch Series 2. Since 128GB was an existing capacity, users can purchase it now. To look more in-depth at all of the iPhone models, Apple offers a comparison chart on its website, with all of the various colors, pricing, storage options, and tech specs for each iPhone.

Great news. The 6S is a very capable phone and still utterly spanks the competition.

At the moment, pricing on Apple's website are almost identical to used 6Ss on eBay. Once the 7 is released, pricing for used phones should plummet even further. You can pick up a 5S for next-to-nothing these days, which is still a great phone.

The longevity of these iOS devices seem to be more and more impressive.

Death to 16Gb.

No seriously, my Air 2 was perhaps an impulse buy during x'mas but oh my god 16gb is torture on that device or any other ones I reckon.

Glad to see they're keeping all four colors too. I remember when the 6s was introduced last year, the 6 got the usual discount, but you could only buy the space gray and silver models.

Nice. Could've used that 32GB option last year when I wanted it rather than spending the extra money on the 64GB which I don't need all of.

this seems extremely desperate.. i wonder if ireland had something to do with this

It will be interesting to see what this does to the price of the 64GB models on the used market.

Bit of a shame that they are neglecting the (quoting Apple) "most powerful 4‑inch phone ever", the SE. The only new iPhone you can still buy with a measly 16GB.

The 6s is and will continue to be a very good phone (although I would say that as I have one). For me the 6 - 6s jump seemed bigger than the 6s - 7 in everything except camera, that said I'm happy with that as I now do want a watch and can get one of those instead...

This was one of the most surprising announcements during the Keynote. I was pleased to hear this. The 6s is a powerhouse Phone. And now it's more affordable with a larger storage tier.

I currently have the 5 and was waiting for the 7 to decide which to buy. Prior to the release show, my thought was if they remove the 3.5 jack, I would get the 6s. During the release show, I thought I'd get the 7 due to improved speed and camera even though they removed the 3.5 jack. Now, I might be back to the 6s. I must be hardwired to play music in my car as the bluetooth doesn't play music, only phone calls. I also very frequently use Waze which uses a lot of battery. So, I can't play music and charge in my car at the same time. Will the reality of that be a big issue? Hmmmmm....

I guess you did not get the memo. The day after the event is an Apple bashing day for not living up to our wild and unrealistic expectations. Please update your post to be way more negative. Thank you.
:p:D

they couldn't find anyone to make 16GB drives anymore
This is the best comment I've seen on here in a long time! Hah.

I about flipped out when Phil first showed the storage tiers at 16/64/128GB during the presentation. It's funny, because last year I thought they were going to do that very thing and then say "Just kidding!" and this year they actually do that and I fall for it. I guess my expectations have been lowered.

No it doesn't; and it doesn't.

They dropped the price of the 64GB upgrade to the point where it is compelling. The 16GB is now only there so they can say "starting at under $400" (USD).
