When I switched from ATT over to upgrade program last year I paid for the $129 AppleCare plus. I remember asking...if I get a new phone after a year what happens to the balance on my AppleCare since I'm only using half of it? They seemed confused about it but seemed to agree I'd get prorated money back.

Now it's been a year and I want to get the X. I am seeing now that AppleCare for that phone has been jacked up to $199 with a $99 if you say drop it in water or break it. I mean jeesh.

I did the one year upgrade plan because I knew I'd want to get this anniversary phone. I thought I remembered there was an option through apple to upgrade every other year. Maybe I am remembering wrong? I don't see that option under payment plans on their website. Only the upgrade program which is get a new phone every year. Now they have AppleCare built into it. Even though its a new phone every year they are still charging this full 199 2 year AppleCare coverage. Why is this??

with the apple program... I though apple care was included last year, too, in the price you pay monthly and that they divided the price of the AC out just like they do the price of the phone...

if that's the case... you didn't need to buy AC on top of the payments you are making.

if that's not the case... you just need to call apple care once you've received your new phone and they will issue you for the unused portion. last year we got 1/2 back since we got the new phone at 1 year... this year I guess it will be less since we'll have the phone a couple extra months... but a refund is a refund.....

I guess you are right and I just wasn't thinking...if they pt the cost of AppleCare into monthly payments and you upgrade after a year, you don't pay the full price anyways.
