Apple use diff CD drives when building iMacs?

ok, my original 1st iMac (3.06 ATI) has a "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670s" dvd drive


my identical replacement has a "PIONEER DVD RW DVRTS08

is this the norm across the range?

I'm assuming both are similar?

Yeh they tend to vary - but the specs will be the same. You may notice different sounds when the computer starts up, or when a disc is spinning, but the way the drive functions will be exactly the same.
