So Apple is selling this developer arm for $299 that enables usb c i/o on Vision Pro.
This confirms that some of those “chunky lightning” or “thicccc lightning” photos from the batter pack are actually usb-c spec’d connectors.
It appears that this is only available to registered developers for now. However, it begs the question: will Vision Pro accept usb-c input for things like external storage, or direct link connections to Mac for enhanced functionality for end consumers?
Maybe not, but it will be really interesting to see what happens if they end up porting over pro apps for native Vision Pro support. When Final Cut arrives, will we be expected to airdrop files back and forth for workflow? I can’t imagine that working well for most people.
Let’s hope this or an accessory like this comes to consumers.
Question for owners of Vision Pro: can you try plugging in an ssd into the battery pack port and see if it shows up in the files app? It appears that the puck connector runs usb-c pins through it. I doubt data flows through, but you never know.
