Why did Apple make the iPhone? Because they knew their new found gravy train of the iPod would eventually be subsumed by a phone that integrated that behavior.

Why did Apple make the Vision Pro? Same reason. They fear that at some point the iPhone can be integrated into a pair of glasses and the reason for the iPhone will cease to exist.

In the end, it's best that you do your own cannibalizing before others do it for you.

Sure, but it seems way too early to be worried about that given where technology is. I’d argue that the iPhone has nothing to worry about for at least a decade, if not more.

You might be right, but you want the replacement in place early. If you get it there late, well, it's too late.

I love AVP but it's not a general public product. Ergo "pro". I think until the tech is in a pair of RayBan sized glasses, it will remain not something for the general public. I think it's at least 5-7 years for that. So you know, your time table of 10 years, probably spot on.
