Really?

From the Apple email:

"Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis."

I take it that Pre-Authorization is not equal to reservation. I am guessing all reserved phone's will be available till end of business day.

Or that it could be just a disclaimer to cover scenarios like FedEx truck don't show up in time.

People have well-established through calls to various Apple Stores that a reservation is a guarantee that you will have a phone reserved for you through the close-of-business on the 24th.

If you have a reservation, you should use it. Otherwise, you should cancel it so a walk-up will have a better chance of getting a phone on release day.
