It would have been really easy to miss it, but Apple last year briefly mentioned a new PayPal feature coming to the Wallet app on the iPhone.

In the final sentence of an October 2024 press release, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Apple Pay, Apple said iPhone users in the U.S. would be able to see their PayPal balance when using their PayPal debit card in the Wallet app. Apple said this feature would launch in 2025, so it should arrive in a future iOS 18 or iOS 19 update.

Here is exactly what Apple said in the press release last year:
Next year, customers in the U.S. will also be able to see their PayPal balance when using their PayPal debit card in Apple Wallet, giving them greater visibility and confidence when shopping.
This will be an expansion of the Connected Cards feature in the Wallet app. This feature lets you view a supported credit card or debit card's balance, along with up to two years of your full transaction history, including purchases that were not made with Apple Pay. The feature is currently available for select bank cards in the U.K. and Discover credit cards in the U.S., and it will expand to the PayPal debit card this year.

PayPal's debit card can already be added to the Apple Wallet app, but the balance feature is still not live as of the iOS 18.4 beta, as far as we can tell.

Is Tim Cook reading this???? Ffs, let us RENAME the cards we add to the wallet!

I have 5 cards (visa/debit) cards from the same bank. They all have the same cover, I need to memories the bankaccount numbers to keep them apart! This is suck a pain!

I want to add 'Business Visa' 'Private Visa'.... so I know what card is what.

Have to say, I only ever use PayPal when there is no better option. Would always prefer Apple Pay. But some companies just don't offer that.

And I have only just realised, I never actually look at account details in Wallet. Which is just as well, as they were months out of date! Now that I have looked, they appear to have updated. But one had a balance nearly a thousand higher than I expected, the other a thousand lower!

I use Apple Pay for paying but always use my bank app for viewing any details. Appears I need to use Wallet & Apple Pay for the details to get updated.

Are they ever going expand Apple Card to other countries? After nearly 6 years it’s still only available for US customers.

Come December 30th — “Our crappy engineers couldn’t figure it out, so we’re delaying it — now will be out by the end of 2026.”

I doubt it. Banks in other countries have interchange fee caps on credit cards, and with what Apple wants out of the product, it wouldn’t be profitable at all — probably a loss leader.

is paypal still a thing? I do not hear much people use it any more. Ebay broke from them , kids use venmo I think, everyone else just use credit cards online.

Stopped using PayPal years ago. I don’t want it anywhere near my Apple Wallet. 🤮

This Connected Cards has been a really great feature for me here in UK since its arrival. I use it all the time for all my credit/debit cards, as you don't have to open banking apps to check transactions and balances, it's all listed right there in Apple Wallet app on iPhone.

I wish they'd extend the function to the other Apple devices though (iPad, Mac), so I could just use the device I was on instead of my iPhone (or iPhone mirroring on Mac Sequoia).

Also, while the setup in banking apps says it has to be manually renewed every 3-6 months, this seems to happen automatically, as I've never had to redo it once done. That's great, so pat on the back to Apple and UK banking industry. (Don't worry, I have plenty of other peeves with banks, just not this one, lol!)

This will be a pretty cool feature. I use my PayPal debit card for the revolving 5% cash back. I’m able to transfer $25+ in cash back to my 4.00% APY Savings Account with PayPal. I haven’t had any issues with PayPal.
