Hi all,
Before going to bed I put my iPhone on airplane mode. I would expect my AW3 to catch the cellular network so I can still receive any urgent call for instance. But it does not as my watch would still catch my home WiFi and would not connect to the cell network. The only way to have it connected is to disable WiFi on the watch... which bothers me as I don’t want every morning to enable it again...

Do you see my point? Any tricks or idea on how my watch can be on the cell network as soon as I put my iPhone on airplane mode?

Thanks

Nope no dice! The only way to do that would be to forget the wifi network that the watch connects to which would be another problem. Best way is to turn on wifi every morning or just keep the phone on

Ok thanks for your feedback. Too bad... I was just hoping so thinking the SAR on my AW3 is lower than the one on my iPhone.

You do know that your Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) can and does support carrier Wi-Fi Calling on Orange in France.

When you put your iPhone in Airplane mode, your watch loses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity to your iPhone as expected but your watch will connect to your home Wi-Fi and Orange's Wi-Fi calling would be available on your watch. You just need to have Cellular enabled: Cellular Icon in the Watch Control Panel is "White" which means the eSIM is powered on and ready for carrier Wi-Fi Calling.

Am I missing something unique about your home Wi-Fi configuration or Orange's support of the Apple Watch?

Thanks Dave. I have tried again today and it worked just fine. Not sure why it did not the previous days.
