Recently, I am unable to take an ECG with my Apple Watch series 4. When I place my finger on the crown, nothing happens. If I push harder, sometimes I will get a reading like a lie detector needle, going fast and all over the place. After about 10-15 seconds of that, the count will reset and try to start the process all over again.

Apple Support says I can mail the watch to them for repair and it will cost at least $400 and that most people just end up buying a new watch.

Other than this issue, the watch seems to be functioning fine.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

I suppose you don't have AC+? Did you try to clean the crown with like an alcohol wipe? tried your middle finger? if the sensor has indeed gone bad, they would basically give you a refurb watch which is why it's $400, which of course isn't worth it. if you can live without ECG, just keep and enjoy the watch.

I recently noticed this as well. It seemed to happen after I updated a while back and I figured they'd fix it or something down the line. Then when nothing changed I thought I broke it, but I'm never rough with my watch... My sister's watch (same series) also has trouble with ECG readings which is weird, but maybe it's because we bought them at the same time. I'm debating what to do about it. Even if it's a part gone bad at least it's nice to know my sister and I aren't the only ones.
