Can I use AW 4 gps+cellular without having cellular switched on and get better battery life than when cellular is activated - it’s just that I can only see the gps+cellular AW4 and no gps only versions and I don’t need cellular function at all

Yes, but even when activated it is only ever used if it is outside bluetooth or known WiFi range. So while connected to BT or WiFi, there is no extra battery drain from LTE.

No. You can continue using it without an LTE plan as if it never came with it. Many do this with the SS model and above which default with LTE built in.
