There might be a simple answer to this but I can’t figure it out.

I’ve just passed my Apple Watch 7 over to my partner who had a series 4 previously.

He has an active job and tracks fitness goals pretty avidly (this is casual exercise rather than recording proper workouts) but since getting the 7, the fitness tracking is suggesting he’s doing considerably less exercise. His routine hasn’t changed.

Does that maybe sound like a bug? Or is there just more accurate fitness tracking in the 7..?

What are the watchOS versions for each?
I don’t think it is HW related, I’ve noticed similar over the years with OS updates.
Like the other day I was in the garage moving boxes and stuff around for like an hour, and about a half hour in I noticed no increase in exercise minutes, so I started a workout, and this was with an Ultra 2

Hmmm. I’m honestly not sure but I don’t think he updated the 4 before switching to the 7… so the 7 is running the latest software and I’m guessing the 4 wasn’t.

He’s had anomalies before but it’s like there’s a sudden decrease since the 7. Everyday is recording like half what the 4 was recording.

Could be as simple as a strap that’s too loose. But probably greater accuracy too.

Thanks. It’s the same strap so I’d ruled that out but I’ll double check the fit.
so, S4 is 44mm and S7 is 45mm, so it is wider/roomier by 1 mm - you'd think that doesn't make a difference, but there are also posts here now with the S10 where people are reporting that (older) bands feel "looser"

Thanks. We'll try removing a link and see if that makes a difference. Fingers crossed.
