Been a couple of years, the 6 died.. after going swimming in shallow end of pool for couple mins.. first time taking it in water. Didn't the original ads have people swimming with them on😒 Apple quoted $299 to repair/replace. So I'm planning to get a new one. They still have good deals on the 9. Get the 9 and take advantage of deals or wait for 10 in September and pay full price? If there is going to be some ground breaking update on the 10, perhaps I'll wait. But I'm thinking not, so leaning towards getting the 9. What do you think? I will def miss the pulse ox on the 6 though :/

Over time the water resistance will decline with usage and wear, however, I share your expectation the Series 6 would still be water resistant even today... but I don't know your particular "usage and wear" patterns. After water exposure, you are supposed to use the water ejection feature of the watch.

You still might get the blood oxygen depending where you buy it from. From Apple directly, no, but from a third party retailer you might.

what do you use your AW for? that will help answering your question.
If you need, you might get a deal on a used 6/7/8 to bring you over the 2 months wait ...

Does the OP need blood oxygen functionality on their next Apple Watch, just like their Apple Watch Series 6 did? If so, please keep in mind if you are getting Apple Watch series 9 or 2nd gen Apple Watch Ultra, yes a third party retailer will offer them without LW/A in the part number, and it will be seen in the description of the product.

If you don’t mind the double tap and/or the enhanced iPhone pinging feature for those who have iPhone 15 and later, you can still get the blood oxygen functionality and save a little bit of money with a previous gen Apple Watch Series 8 or Apple Watch Ultra (1st Generation). Either used or new is completely fine, Walmart sells new S8s that are half the price of the latest Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra (2nd Generation).

I swim in my series 7 all the time. Take in the ocean too. Never had an issue.
My opinion…buy the Ultra 2. I love the square face.

I just need a watch for gym/tracking steps/listening to music. Nothing fancy. Sucks that the 6 died after almost 4 years first time I got into water. The 45mm 9 is available brand new for $300.

Is that via Apple or somewhere else? I don’t think it’s that low most places I’ve found it, but I’d consider it for $300 for the 45mm. With all my gripes about my AW7, if it died in water or whatnot and I didn’t have one for 2 months or so as the other option, I’d def get a S9 or whatever I could afford, before Sept. (often they aren’t available til Oct. too).

Just a thought, sorry it’s off topic but since there’s been resolution to the original question… 😅

The seals might’ve failed if they’ve never been wet, and just dried up losing their original elasticity. I have a Series-6 I’ve showered with and routinely don’t protect.

I mention it as potential advice for usage patterns in the future 🤗

I’d wait and see what the 10 has to offer

Personally I’m waiting for the 10 so I can buy the 7 at a cheaper price.

Looking at the features of the 8,9 and rumours for 10, I don’t see anything more from them than what the 7 offers for my lifestyle. And I think ultimately this is what it comes down to. We all like shiny and new but for a watch I’d never go beyond whatever series more than the features I’d like.

May I ask what is your use case for Apple Watch? Based on your lifestyle?

If you’re Apple Watch is toast and it had water ingress… well that’s going to be soggy toast and I’d recommend you get a new watch.

😀

If it was me I would 100% wait for the next Apple Watch. With this being the ten year anniversary you would hope it would be a big update.

Ended up just buying the Series 9 45mm for $309 brand new on Amazon. PRIME day left over sale. Figured even if I wait for 10, won't get a deal like this. I paid $420+ for the 6 and it lasted almost 4 years.
Did you get an aluminum or stainless steel one? I got my gold SS during a spring sale in Walmart for about $245.
