This is always a market indicators when retailers are clearing out inventory with great deals on current and past gen Apple devices

This means nothing. Pretty sure a new one won't be released until at least fall/autumn.

Take a look at all the deals that were going on during spring and summer last year for the Series 6...

I think the actual proof is that Apple has released a new series every year since 2015 without fail.

The sales are just natural and happen every year around this time.

Series 8 won’t be released until at least September and even then you might be waiting for a few weeks to get hold of one if you are looking at ordering any of the popular colours / combinations.

Apple has done so for the past 6 or so years, no reason for them to change their schedules. And IMO third party sellers discounting the S7 is not a sign of ‘the S8 coming’

April, May, June seems to be where you can save 25% or more on a new watch. I’ve purchased all 3 of my watches with that discount on a current new watch in those months (2017, 2020, 2021).

I’m expecting it to introduce a couple of new features, and for it to see some price cuts in about a year’s time.

We‘re only at the mid-way point in the AW7 life-cycle. Six months away is not what I call around the corner. ?
Well. I got the Herms Series 7 AW and a couple Hermes bands to go with the aesthetics. There were rumors about a design change into square edges. I hope that's not the case, and when Series 8 rolls out with the same round edge design, I will sigh a sigh a relief because I intend to keep my watch for at least 3 years. I don't want my AW to look dated...

But I also read there's a rugged version coming out for a new demographic. That has nothing to do with me, so I'm not super worried about that.

PS: the older you get, time goes by faster. ;)

So, you’re saying that I can snag a 40mm Series 7 with Cellular — which would normally cost $500 — for $375?!! Or, even less?!!

I'm truly surprised, even shocked, by that.

Do other people agree that 25%+ discounts on new Apple Watches are typical in the spring?

No, a 40mm S7 watch doesn't exist. I kid...I'm sure you meant the 41mm. ;)

I haven't seen deals quite that high, but really haven't been paying close attention either. Amazon did take 25% off the Series 6 last year, but only for the (Product)RED GPS model; the rest remained near normal prices (link). You can also use the link in my post #4 above to see other deals that were had for the Series 6. This Amazon one seems to have been the best of them all. Otherwise, carriers are probably more likely to offer discounts for the cellular models than retailers.

Yet Garmin is able to achieve this on some of their OLED watches.

I think it’s more to do with WatchOS and smart functions needing to continuously run in the background.

If you turn on AOD on most Garmin watches, the battery life becomes more comparable, maybe a little bit longer.

You also can’t integrate many things between Garmin and iPhones. So, as you said, there’s almost nothing to update in the background. It’s just about entirely pulling from Garmin Connect and then just push notifications from the phone. Apple can’t take this approach because it’s one of (or the most for some) the most important differentiators/features of the Apple Watch.

Garmin sort of gets a free pass here because they cannot access this level of functionality with iOS. I’d be curious to see what would happen to their battery life if they actually could integrate much deeper with iOS.

Got 50% off my Series 1 in June of 2017 ($199). 25% off Series 5 in May 2020 ($299). And 25% off Series 6 in June 2021 ($289). There are limitation like the 6 was red, but I generally got them from Macy’s or Best Buy online as brand new. I do see really good deals on upper end ones that are titanium and cell and whatnot. But we are all caught up and I haven’t been looking.
