I have a series 4 ss and just got a stainless steel model but for some reason isn’t detecting my series 6 as alu? I checked the back and it definitely is ss

Saw the same thing today. I reset and re-paired, setting it up as a new watch.
The fancy spirograph at set-up confirmed Stainless Steel - yet here it is again in the Watch app listed as alumium !

Gotta be a bug.

Same here! Thought it might have been because my previous Apple Watch was an aluminium model and it got carried over to my new stainless steel watch because I restored from my backup. Then attempted to unpair the watch and set it up as new, as well as reboot my iPhone, still no dice.

Went onto the Apple Support site to check my watch and it's correctly showing it as a stainless steel model so definitely a bug! Was driving me crazy

Same as well, S6 SS 44mm graphite picked up as aluminum, interesting bug. I upgraded from the S5 SS SB 44mm.

Glad I’m not the only one! Mine is registering as the same. I’m also having issues activating with Verizon. It keeps saying device incompatible and when I called them they said the IMEI number couldn’t be found.
So now I’m waiting for Apple to call me back. Ugh.

Have you heard anything back from Apple? I have this same issue with it saying incompatible and Apple told me it was an issue they were working on and there is no fix at this time.

Same here. There are two other threads on this issue. I contacted Apple Support last night and talked to a Senior Specialist. She then advised me that she would alert Engineering and would follow up with me as soon as she heard back from them. Don't bother trying reboot and restores, etc. None work to resolve the issue.

I suggest anyone with this issue report it to Apple so they don't think its just a fluke!

I called and was finally able to chat with an IT tech (I guess I got lucky). Before I was only able to reach a sales rep and they kept pushing it back on Apple.

He submitted a ticket for me to add the IMEI to their database for activation. He mentioned that some devices slip through the cracks when they are uploading their database and that if that happens, they have to be added manually.

Take it back. That is a major Apple issue that if not taken care of, your watch will turn aluminum!

Uh...add me to the long list. Graphite SS is now aluminum. This is also confirmed on my iMac under the Security setting where I can unlock my computer with my AW.

Is this really that important? It’s just a string of text that will be fixed eventually, it makes no difference to the functionality of your watch.
