Apple watch calling problem

When I answer a call on my watch it says the conversation is on the watch and the person on the other line can hear me but I cant hear them because it is going through my phone and not my watch anymore. I found this out because I can very faintly hear them when my phone is across the room. How do I get this back to normal when I hear the person on the other line through my watch and not my phone.

Had the same problem when I first got the watch. Kill all background apps on the phone, turn both phone and watch off, then turn them back on. This is what worked for me.
