Hi, I've had my Apple Watch for a couple weeks and I don't like the iMessage feature on it since you can only send preset replies, so I wanted to know if and how I can turn it off on my Apple Watch. I have all sounds and vibrations turned off when I get messages on the watch, but I'd like to turn it off completely (just on my watch, not my phone) because every time I turn on my watch it gets bombarded with random texts I had received throughout the day on my phone, and it takes a while to delete them.

First of all, so that you know, you don't have to use the presets to send a text...you can use Siri by pressing the digital crown and you can also set up customized presets if you want.

Second, the messages you get on your watch that you have to delete are notifications, not messages. You can delete them in one shot by force touching the screen and then selecting "Clear All." The messages will still be in your iMessages app on your watch and they will match the messages on your phone and that is what you want. But the notifications are a separate matter.

Third, if you don't like any of the above and still want to stop iMessage notifications, just go into the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then go to Notifications, then Messages, then select Custom, and then turn off everything there.

Hope that helps. :)

I don't think that this will help the OP. He wants to stop (if I understand correctly) all Messages from going from his iPhone to his Watch. These instructions will only turn off the NOTIFICATIONS for the Messages. I believe that they will still arrive on his Watch - and eventually have to be deleted from the Messages app on the Watch.

Well, I think the messages sync with the phone automatically. But the notifications don't and they need to be deleted so I took what the OP said to mean the iMessage notifications and not the messages in the message app on the watch....he did say that when he turns on the watch he gets bombarded with texts...those are notifications and not the actual message....but I may be wrong in my assumption, only the OP knows.

Hi, Is if possible to switch off the message app altogether on the watch (temporarily, when i have to lend my watch to someone and don't want them to go through my messages)

Don't ever share your watch! Clearly someone just wants to snoop on you...
You can't really shut them off
But to clear all you're notifications pull down on the screen on the clock Screen to get to all your notifications then hold down on the middle of the screen and click clear notifications. But they can still see in your iMessages app
