I've only had GPS Apple watches before but have just ordered the Ultra which has cellular too. My thoughts are to activate the cellular on the apple watch on a different network to my phone (my phone is O2 and I was thinking of activating the watch as EE), is this possible?

Also, if I wanted to make/receive calls on my watch would it use the network plan from the phone, or the network plan from the watch if my phone is in close proximity?

Cheers

I don’t think that’s possible since the Apple Watch uses the same number as the iPhone. But maybe I’m wrong.

About the second question, assuming that you’re using the same number for both devices, you don’t need to be near your iPhone to make a phone call since it’s a separate device but with the same number.

You can think about it but I doubt you can make it happen. Your watch and phone have to be on the same carrier.

Thanks guys :)

It is possible with the watch's dual eSims. You can setup two cellular accounts, from different carriers on your iPhone, attach both to the Apple Watch and have one active on the iPhone and the other on the Apple Watch. If the phone is unlocked, you can use different carriers for the eSims. The question is will carriers do watch only plans or will you need a voice + watch add-on plan for the second one.

I suspect if you already have both setup on the phone you might be able to setup only 1 on the watch and have it be the one the watch uses.

Calls go from line selected on the watch.

It will get calls from both and notify you which line is calling if the phone is nearby and the watch connected; and respond accordingly. If the phone is not nearby but on it'll do the same, if it is off only the watch line. iMessages from bot lines get through.

I remember a year or so ago someone started a thread ranting about why they had to get an iphone to have an Apple Watch. It was kind of ridiculous, there are other devices that will work perfectly with other phones, and have many of the same features. Fortunately the cell carrier is a bit easier to pick.
