Regarding the Apple watch, I think its more of another learning curve, than anything else
A multiple way of using the digital crown + touch to select (which is required) .. Similarly, this would be like using the trackpad on your mac only to scroll, and using the screen as a touch screen.. On the mac we use the trackpad for everything, so why can we use the digital crown on the watch for everything too ?
I reckon its not the fact of using the digital crown wont be a problem,, its the mixture of oh dam, i need to touch this to select despite being a small display, and Apple did say that no one want to use their finger (which they display the image in the WWDC keynote), theyo nly mentioned zooming, but the same would apply anyway when selecting... it covers the entire display, weather the icon is small or big.
Im sure if Apple took more careful planning, everything could easily be done from the crown, even selecting .
Not sure how that would work, but requiring users to touch to open stuff is definitely never a good idea on a small display.
