Apple watch does not connect to home wifi

I updated the apple watch to watchOS 2 and expected the watch to connect to my home wifi network when the iPhone was put of reach. Unfortunately it didn't and do not understand why. I checked the wifi connections. They are both on 2,4 GHz As suggesties by Apple. Any suggestons are greatly appreciated.

Is the MAC filter in the router activated? Is the router's SSID visible?

What worked for me: forget the network from the iPhone setting. Reconnect to the network while watch is connected.
