How badly would the Apple Watch affect say the iPhone 6's battery life throughout the day?

Everyone talks about the Apple Watch's battery but what about our actual iPhone's?

Would it help it since we wouldn't be turning on the screen of the phone that often?

Should be no worse than having say a bluetooth headset/headphones, etc attached all day. Bluetooth is pretty lower power, and if you're notifications appear on your watch instead of lighting up your phone like a Christmas tree all the time then I would have thought it would consume less power throughout a day.

Bluetooth being connected won't consume as much power as your screen constantly lighting up.
