I need some advice on getting a watch for my wife. She wants a watch, doesn't have to be a smart watch but I'm thinking of getting her either an Apple Watch or a Fitbit Ionic

She wants something she can take swimming and I was thinking of getting her a smart watch so she can receive text messages when at work while her phone is tucked away to notify her if I'm running late to pick up the kids or emergencies/etc.

The thing is she might find it a pain to have to charge it every night but I can't see her having the heart rate monitor always on or tracking her yoga.. so maybe it might last longer. It be more for telling time and seeing if someone needed to get a hold of her.

I was thinking of getting her a Fitbit Ionic instead as it lasts up to 4 days. She really likes too that my fitbit charge HR has silent alarms that just vibrates on your wrist. Now with the Apple watch rated for 18hours I can't see her being able to sleep with the Apple Watch and use the silent alarm if doesn't last that long. Then the issue is where and when to charge it after you wake up to go to yoga then work...

Anyway, any advice or insight would be appreciated!

I own an Apple Watch series 2 and loved it! I pretty much wear it everyday the moment I wake up till before bed since I take it off. It feels a little uncomfortable for me to sleep while wearing my Apple Watch, i just feel it lol.. I never used it to track my sleep but I use it when I work out or walk for a long time. I always use it too for texting and calling, it's so convenient using it when driving not having to worry about typing or using my phone since Siri is very responsive. My battery last 2 days or more if I'm not mistaken at least. I don't have to charge it often, since I only use it for texting or answering calls. I actually initially purchased it so I would never missed any calls if some tries to contact me. Battery life is great, but I'm not a heavy user that's why mine last for 2 days with a little charge still left in it. I think she'll love it since it's so handy. I don't have Fitbit so I really can't say anything about it.

I would also look into the Series 2. There should be some good sale prices coming up here shortly and retailers offering promotions possibly as well. It has more than enough functionality to meet most expectations of what they want out of a smart watch and someone likely wouldn't even utilize all the features it has.
