Title says it all. Upgraded to the newest OS - First I noticed that the battery was Draining very fast. Like down to 30% a few hours into a 12 hour shift at work... I have had all day battery life (14+ hours) from the original release date.

So the battery died before I got home that day....Charged it when I got home that night and went to put it on the next morning...Everything seemed normal, I Put on the watch and got in my car to go to work.

At this point I had NOT entered my passcode (I tried to use siri by pressing on the crown to play a song in the car and was prompted to enter my passcode. I was unable to enter my passcode. Every time I tried to hit the First Digit of my passcode it would either glitch and enter the wrong number or even when I hit the correct number, it would immediately erase (it looked like the erase key was being activated indefinitely ).... Therefore I gave up and started driving to work and planned on addressing the issue when I had time.

IMPORTANT PART HERE: When I arrived at work my watch was UNLOCKED. 1000% a fact. I did not even attempt to enter my passcode again.. I had full access to the watch... without passcode??? Am I missing something?.. the odds of my passcode accidentally being entered by a faulty touch screen seem nearly impossible..So anyway, I was at work so I didn't really have time to try and analyze what happened.

Finally I got home that night and put the watch on the charger, It had died before I made it home again. The Apple logo immediately turned on... and then immediately off again.... now the watch is stuck in this loop when charging. Apple logo on off and no charging. Watch won't turn on.

I chatted with apple support today (online app) and they went through a bunch of standard questions and then they asked my to turn on diagnostics on my phone so they could remotely check the watch. I didn't know that was possible!?... and unfortunately I had paired my wife's watch (that she doesn't use) and left my busted watch at home.

So....

I will be calling apple back this weekend. TBC

btw Apple watch Gen 1 SS 42mm ordered on release day 1 minute 7 with additional apple care coverage. I had originally contacted chat to find out what the process is for sending the watch in for repairs, I thought that was the only option based on the support articles I had seen.

Also I do shower, swim, surf and pretty much take the watch into all conditions However nothing that I can say correlates with the untimely death of the watch.

Either you entered the pincode correctly and it accepted it without you noticing or you have the "unlock with iPhone" option enabled and unlocked your phone at some point which also unlocked your watch. OS 4 is buggy on Gen1 watches because the S1 SoC is really just too slow for it. It's likely it accepted your pin and then didn't unlock right away. I really doubt it unlocked itself.

Battery life on my Gen1 watch did take a hit as well, though I'm still (just barely) making it through a day on a charge. I imagine this will be the last new OS release on Gen1 watches.

So.. Apple can’t do a repost diagnostic and it’s 249$ for “replacement” SS gen 1. I purchased the extra Apple care but it has expired... obviously 250 is better put towards the newest gen.

On a side note. I have never used any method to unlock my watch besides a passcode. I’m sticking to my story.

It’s kind of funny that Apple offered me a replacement gen 1 watch through Apple support for 249. The customer service rep told me he had to look up the replacement “cost”. I get an aluminum Series one for 250$? He didn’t even tell me the price of the cheapest SS model... ugh.

That being said I’ve worn it every day since launch and I wil be getting another.. sans Apple care.
