Snap today announced the launch of a Snapchat app that's designed for the Apple Watch. Snapchat users can now view and respond to conversations right from their wrists.

The Snapchat app supports replies with the built-in Apple Watch keyboard, Scribble, and Dictation, plus it supports sending emoji, like any other Apple Watch messaging app.

Snap says that it is committed to making Snapchat available across all devices that Snapchat users own, including wearable devices like the Apple Watch.

It is rare for a major company to roll out an Apple Watch app these days, as it has not proven to be a popular platform. Slack, Facebook Messenger, Uber, Lyft, and more were all once available on the Apple Watch but have been discontinued after companies found that the development resources were not worth it.

More and more people purchase bigger display iPhone/smartphones but now a tiny screen like a smartwatch gets an app that is better used on a bigger display? Even previously available apps are no longer available/discontinued. Make it make sense.

I use SnapChat to talk to my 17 year old (she doesn't check text messages, but she'll respond to Snaps so whatever) but whenever I get anything from her the only notification I get on either my phone or watch is "(daughter's name here) sent you a chat"... will this fix that or am I just too old to understand how to use SnapChat?

Good to know about this. But I don't think I will be using this. But think there will be a significant user base wanting this feature.

I could have sworn this used to be a feature before... like I remember replying to Snapchat messages on my watch back in 2017 :p

Sorry but this is 10 years too late. I remember using Snapchat in high school and wanting to open snaps right from my wrist. That time has now passed and I don't think anyone actively uses snap anymore.

If you don't have an Apple Watch app, you don't have an Apple Watch app. watchOS is the biggest and best smartwatch platform that seamlessly integrates across the entire Apple ecosystem. You need to be on Apple Watch to truly connect with your audience.

There are barely any Apple Watch apps, and many of the ones that were originally on the platform were discontinued as few people used them...so apparently you don't "need to be on the Apple Watch".

It's nice that Snap made one, however!

watchOS 10 finally made Apple Watch development worthwhile...but unfortunately it spurned many companies over the prior 10 years of terrible SDK's, weird limitations, limited design options, limited resources and basically zero upside in terms of App Store visibility (Zero search filters, basically one editorial category, thanks Apple!)

snapchat should add a few things:

-multiple device support

- persistent chat option for those who want it. It could still let people edit or delete their own messages at any time, like most other platforms, but sometimes it's nice to have a relatively persistent thread when communicating, even with the ability to make edits at any time to control our own digital footprint. It doesn't have to be default, it could be an option of course.

- change the logo and branding to something less kooky and more professional
