When I look at the sources for steps in the health app it lists Health, Apple Watch, and my iPhone.

Isn't it redundant to have Health and the iPhone as well. Isn't health just the container? Does anyone understand this?

The order that it's listed is the priority it shows. For example if you walk with your watch and your phone and you get 1000 steps on each for the same time period it will only show 1000 from your watch. If you take it off and walk another 1000 with just the phone since there were no watch steps for that time period then it will count the phone steps for a total of 2000. Health app being first would overrule all others if you put in a manual entry

Thanks! I didn't consider manual entry. That makes sense now.
