My state has a law that was just passed saying we can not use phones or smartwatches during the school day. It also says it can not be seen either, no matter if it is being used or not. My question is, does the Apple Watch still track steps semi accurately or does it not track as well if it is in a pocket. I have a 800+ day move streak going and would like to keep it going. Thanks for your help.

Which state is that? Seems a half-ass decision … I understand to some degree smartphones but, not want to derail.

Doubtful that AW will track in pocket, it relies on arm movement and that movement is obviously limited in the pocket, but give it a try.
There have been posts as well as a news story about wearing it on your ankle, do a search for that

Missouri, but other states have enacted that ban too. I see the reasoning behind it but wish that we could wear smartwatches if we don’t use it for texting cheating etc.

I have found that loophole in my schools student handbook because it said it can not be seen or heard, even if it is on your wrist, and was gonna wear it on my ankle when it gets cooler out. Just looking for a way to still have it track my metrics when it is still hot outside.

Taller socks or maybe a band around your chest/waist like a heart monitor would be worn. IDK, seems like a rough deal.

I’ve put my AW in my pants pocket and it tracks steps, calories, exercise minutes and stand hours. Obviously it doesn’t track heart rate.

Move Calories require heart rate to calculate accurately.
Total (metabolic) calories calculated from your age, weight, and gender may still be displayed, for what that is worth.

I would not want to be the kid caught with an ankle watch hidden under a sock!
