I was wondering if i can use an apple watch the same as i could use an ipod. Upload songs to the watch and listen to them through AirPods without the need of either internet or an iPhone.

Thanks

yes, you can do that.
well you need an iPhone to put the songs on it, though. but afterwards it will play the music without the phone present.

Absolutely. But if iPod can have LTE it will be better so Apple Watch is already a better version of iPod.

Transfer speed from phone to watch is really poor by modern standards, well, it was really poor on the Series 3.

One of the first things I'll test on the S4 is the new BT 5.0 standard transfer speed. Hoping for a nice speed jump there.
